Tap Water is Good




One thing that I'm really passionate about is recycling, I hate being wasteful but after watching the bottled water story, I learned that bottle companies don't do anything to contribute to the recycling of their product. I already knew that the CEO of Nestle believes in privatizing water for their companies benefit. A lot of people don't understand that bottled water is more dangerous than water from the tap that goes through extensive review for pollutants before it's released to our sinks. The price of water is extremely inflated and we pay about 4 dollars for a liter of water when companies like Nestle only pay .02 cent per gallon. Sink water has been tested over and over again and always comes back cleaner than bottled water that has less regulation. Additionally, most bottled water is tap water recycled through reverse osmosis with a couple of minerals added for taste. I encourage you all to watch this video and think about it the next time you buy a bottle of water. Who is being impacted by this? Do you really need it to be bottled?

This week I watched a short video on YouTube about the impact soil has to our climate. One key learning that I found out was that soil contains a lot of Carbon. When soil is damaged the CO2 goes up to the atmosphere which creates more green house gases in the atmosphere causing warming and could lead to ocean acidification.  Not only are we harming our environment by emitting CO2 through fuel emissions but we are also adding more CO2 through soil erosion. Salmon Life Cyle

This week I learned about the salmon life cycle and how their journey begins. Fish come upstream and lay their eggs in the creek or high on a river bed where the water is cool and constantly flowing. When the hatchlings are born they feed on their egg sack until their old enough to catch food they are called fry. Then they become fingerling and travel to deep pools of water covered by wood or branches that provide shade, food and shelter.  Eventually maturing enough to migrate back into the ocean. They go through smoltering for their bodies to adjust to the ocean. The salmon then travel great lengths looking for food and maturing. They stay in the ocean for about three years before their bodies instincts tell them its time to spawn.
